under a starless sky takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the stars are long gone. The world is dark and cold, and much of society has broken into small communities.

Two women from opposing groups who, by fate or by luck or by something else, meet up at an empty hill to gaze upon the empty sky and reflect upon their lives. Despite living completely different lives and holding conflicting values, the two find themselves drawn to each other, meeting upon the same near-barren hill every few years.

under a starless sky is a visual novel made for Shoot for the Stars Jam 2020, a space and sci-fi themed game jam!

thank you so much!

"I swear I could see the stars I'd been looking for in her eyes."

This was a really lovely read. Cass and Orion's interactions were so sweet.

Absolutely taken by the writing in this. Touched on existential thoughts of place and purpose which personally hit close to home. So many beautifully-crafted lines where I had to pause and acknowledge aloud my surprise and their weight. Don't let the innocuous character art fool you; it will lull you into a false sense of security before the story sweeps you away. The characterization of the two heroines definitely had me taking sides at one point—which means I was invested!—but I'm very satisfied with the resolution.

Will surely be revisiting this and keeping an eye on future submissions by this team.

I like the use of character foils to get across such a sweet, heartwarming tale in the post-apocalypse. I hope to see more from you and your gf in the future!

The characters' interactions felt so realistic, as did their individual journeys. Like, I kept thinking "Oh yeah, it makes sense she'd feel that way in that situation," and that's a good thing!! The pacing was great, too. Love this story.

This visual novel was a lovely experience. The use of sound blips for the dialogue was a nice touch, and I liked the little visual details like the cute blush the characters make during certain moments. The writing is something I also want to praise: I didn't expect the story to go to the places it goes. Great job!

The writing is so pretty!!! I also love the little noises that happen when the text scrolls. It's a very nice touch. The art was adorable.
